Keeping Busy!

Typical, just when we were thinking that it would not be long before we would be changing the car, the exhaust went, well... the front pipe, here in Colombia, they still try to save money by repairing their exhausts, so yesterday we took the car to the mofle (exhaust) man, but the front pipe had split along it's length, and would have to be replaced, apparently that is a regular occurrence with the Chevrolet Corsas. So we left the car with him, and walked off to get some lunch. On our return, it was ready and waiting, parts, labour the lot £14, that brought a smile to my face!

Today continued the saga of obtaining my Colombian ID, or Cedula as it is known here, having arranged to attend the Migración Office in Medellin this morning, we arrived just before 11am, thinking it would be an in an out process, as the woman spoken to last week, stated I just needed to call in have a new photo, fingerprints, and signature taken, for the new system....WRONG!!!

The queue was outside the door into the yard, I found out why I was given the option of going on a Wednesday of Friday, because they are using a Pico y Placa system, where the day you attend corresponds to last number of your given Cedula.

Once inside, I was told that there was quite a long wait, and did I want to call again, I decided to stick it out.
On taking my seat, at 11.30am, I heard a lady nearby say she was only number 21, and had been there 3 hours...I was number 48!!

When I was eventually called through at 1.30pm I couldn't see any difference between what took place today and six weeks ago, the machine was the same, the procedure was the same, and unless they had changed the software...it was the same, they could have used all the data from six weeks ago. Once finished, I put my hand out for the return of my passport, only to be told I also had to have the interview again, so back to the waiting room, and 40 minutes later I was called up, to a confused looking Agent, who had all the information he needed.

I suggest people take a picnic, I was starving by the time I left! There are no extra Staff to deal with this, hopefully, one off extraordinary situation, and as far as I could see, it was a totally pointless exercise, as they already had all the information, but I wasn't about to tell them that, I have seen what they can do, as you will know, if you read my post last year!

I have now been told to ring in 15 days, to ensure my Cedula is ready for collection...Yet again, I won't hold my breath, as I heard another Agent, telling another Punter, to ring in a month!
