This morning, I had to go out first, to pay a bill or two, on the way back, I stopped for brunch, as Marcela was out for the day, and suddenly realised that the motorway was going to be closed again for another cycle race at 11am, so I wolfed down my meal, and headed back, the Police were already in position to seal off the road, I made it just in time.
Back home, I set up the welder, and tried the 6013 5/32" welding rods, I was able to strike an arc immediately, to say I was chuffed was an understatement, it was also a relief. I didn't do any actual welding, my scrap isn't really wide enough to run beads, but I did manage to burn through the 1/8" steel...lol. That was because I did not move the rod sufficiently. My next challenge is to find a scrap yard when I can get hold of some steel to practise with, Stupid as it may seem, I am happy enough to get this far! :)
After that, it was time to do some gardening, out came the brush cutter, to cut the grass, it didn't take long as we have a big patch in the middle, where the weeds haven't grown back since the drought, then I cut the azulina hedge, because it grows through the wire fence, I cut this with shears, it takes a bit longer, but I get a better shape.
We are looking to buy more azulina, it seems to like our quality of soil, or lack of it!! I have had to rip out most of our Bougainvilleas, they just were not growing, or were being eaten by crickets, as much as I tried I couldn't get rid of them.
All in all, quite a satisfying day!
The first three years of my Blog follow my journey settling in to life following my move to Colombia in 2012. After yet another a break from Blogging, I am back, but with a change of emphasis, due to health problems, I have been spending less and less time in the workshop, so decided I either had to close the Blog, or revert to it's original use...a diary! So thats what I am doing, it feels good to be back.
